SPRINGTIME AT ANANDA
17,000 Tulips in Bloom at Crystal Hermitage Gardens at Ananda Village

Nevada City—Throughout the month of April 2018, enjoy the glorious color and serenity of 17,000 tulips in bloom for Springtime at Ananda at Crystal Hermitage. 24,000 visitors since opened to the public at Ananda Village.

“We planted over 108 varieties of mid and late season Dutch bulbs this year,” said Master Gardener, Nancy Mair. “We blend tulips with a rainbow of complementary pansies, wisteria, rhododendrons, azaleas, peonies, dogwood trees and the fabulous cherry tree, so that guests enjoy a different garden in each terrace.”

The gardens will be open every day in April, 10am-5pm, and Crystal Hermitage will open the house on two weekends: April 7-8 and 14-15. We will be open Easter Weekend.

Visitors are welcome to explore the upper terraced gardens and follow the meandering paths by pools, waterfalls, statuary, and the award-winning chapel inspired by the Little Church of St. Francis in Assisi.

“I joined a group for the drive to the garden, and although I have visited many gardens around the world, I’ve never seen anything remotely like it,” wrote one garden blogger.

Situated on a precipice of the San Juan Ridge 30 minutes outside of Nevada City, the gardens overlook the Tahoe National Forest and Yuba River Canyon.

On open house weekends, visitors can chat with Crystal Hermitage lead gardeners, nibble on maple scones, tour the main house, visit the museum, or quietly enjoy the peace and beauty. For a lunch, visitors will find delicious vegetarian fare or can picnic on the green of Master’s Market in downtown Ananda Village. The Expanding Light Retreat Center also offers vegetarian meals and overnight accommodations, with advance reservations.

Touring Crystal Hermitage house offers a spectacular collection Kashmiri wood carved furniture by India’s Suffering Moses, ethereal paintings by Italy’s Guido Odierna, and Balinese art carvings depicting the Ramayana, India’s epic written thousands of years ago.

Admission is $6.00, children 12 and under are free; season passes are $12.00. For more information, tulip bloom updates, and directions, please call 530-478-7574 or visit www.crystalhermitage.org.
